Jennie Bringaker

Tether

C. Sundtsgate 40, 5004 Bergen

Opening 4 October at 13:00-17:00

5-12 October 12:00-16:00

Volt presents Jennie Bringaker’s first solo exhibition in Bergen, which features a series of ceramic sculptures and a drawing. The sculptures depict female figures in intimate poses, tightly entwined with oversized turtles and pears, evoking connotations of fertility, pregnancy and sensuality. The exhibition’s title, Tether, points to the inextricable link between mother and child, body and nature.

In her sculptures and installation, Bringaker uses materials such as ceramic, stone and metal. Her works often stem from personal experiences but are also inspired by prehistoric art, with references to totems, reliefs and murals. A recurring theme in her practice is the representation of the female body, to which she brings both an art-historical and a political perspective. Through her choice of materials, form and technique, Bringaker examines how the feminine can be shaped and challenged.
